EC Announces Biennial Polls For 36 Legislative Council Seats In UP Along With Assembly Elections
Lucknow, Jan 28 : The Election Commission (EC) on Friday announced to hold Biennial Election to the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council from 35 Local Authorities’ Constituencies for 36 seats in two phases on March 3 and 7, along with the seven-phase Assembly elections. According to a statement issued by the Commission, the present tenure of the members of these 36 seats of the Council will expire on March 7.
The notification for phase one of biennial polls in 30 seats will be issued on February 4, last date for filing of nominations is February 11, scrutiny of papers will be done on February 14 and the last date for withdrawal is February 16. The polling of first phase will be held on March 3. The notification for the second phase polls on six seats will be issued on February 10, last date for filing of nominations is February 17, scrutiny of nominations will be done on February 18 and the last date for withdrawal is February 21.
Counting of votes for both the phases will be taken up on March 12. The seats, where polling will be held in the first phase, include Moradabad-Bijnor Local Authorities, Rampur-Bareill Local Authorities,Budaun Local Authorities, Pilibhit-Shahjahanpur Local Authorities, Hardoi Local Authorities, Kheri Local Authorities, Sitapur Local Authorities, Lucknow-Unnao Local Authorities, Rae-Bareli Local Authorities and Pratagarh Local Authorities.
Elections will be held in Sultanpur Local Authorities, Barabanki Local Authorities, Bahraich Local Authorities, Azamgarh-Mau Local Authorities, Ghazipur Local Authorities, Jaunpur Local Authorities, Varanasi Local Authorities, Mirzapur-Sonbhadra Local Authorities, Allahabad Local Authorities, Banda-Hamirpur Local Authorities, Jhansi-Jalaun-Lalitpur Local Authorities and Kanpur-Fatehpur Local Authorities.
Besides, Etawah-Farrukhabad Local Authorities,Agra-Firozabad Local Authorities, Mathura-Etah-Mainpuri Local Authorities (two seats), Aligarh Local Authorities, Bulandshahar Local Authorities, Meerut-Ghaziabad Local Authorities and Muzaffarnagar-Saharanpur Local Authorities will go to polls. In the second phase, polling would be held in Gonda Local Authorities, Faizabad Local Authorities, Basti-Siddharth Nagar Local Authorities, Gorakhpur-Maharajganj Local Authorities, Deoria Local Authorities and Ballia Local Authorities.
