Will Hand-over Resignation To CM Tomorrow: Eshwarappa
Shivamogga/Bengaluru, April 14: Karnataka RDPR Minister KS Eshwarappa on Thursday said that he will hand over his resignation letter to Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai tomorrow.
Talking to reporters here, the Minister said he took the decision after a brief telephonic talk with the Chief Minister.
Earlier on Thursday, Bommai had said that there was no pressure from BJP’s Central leadership over the removal of Eshwarappa and he will continue to stay in the Cabinet. The Chief Minister had given the assurance to reporters, while replying to a query on Congress party’s demand for removal of Eshwarappa for his alleged involvement in the death of Santosh Patil, who had earlier alleged that the Minister had demanded 40 per cent commission for granting of contract to take up a government project.
Patil allegedly committed suicide on Tuesday in a lodge in Udupi, holding Eshwarappa responsible for his death. “I am not under any pressure. It depends on preliminary investigation,” Bommai said. Police have filed an FIR against Eshwarappa, following which the Congress is pitching hard for his removal, arguing that it is abetment to suicide and the Minister should be arrested.
Earlier in the day, Congress leaders including Randeep Surjewala, were stopped and detained while marching towards Bommai’s residence, demanding Eshwarappa’s sacking. They were released later. Surjewala alleged that Bommai was acting against the Constitution and Eshwarappa does not have any right to continue as Minister.
