Nitish Prepared For Caste Census In Bihar
Patna, Feb 14: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday said that his government was committed for caste census in Bihar.
Kumar told media persons here that his government was prepared for caste census in Bihar and all party meeting would be convened to give final touches to modalities for the purpose after evolving consensus on it. Most of the parties had given their consent for all party meeting, he added.
All party meeting was also delayed due to rise in Corona positive cases, he further added. Chief Minister while making reference to BJP, said their leaders were also having consultation among themselves for participating in all party meeting on caste census. The demand for caste census was also placed before the Centre but the government did not agree for caste census at national level, he added.
Kumar said that caste census was essential to ascertain which section of the society lagged behind on path of development and prosperity. After caste census, it would be easy for government to launch specific schemes for those who were still deprived, he stressed.
Chief Minister said that caste census would be beneficial to all. It was not against anyone, he remarked dismissing the arguments of those opposed to caste census. An all party delegation led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on August 23 last year to request him for reconsideration of the decision of Central Government for not conducting caste census.
Even after request made by all party delegation, Central government did not make any change in its stand on caste census and later Union Minister of state for Home Nityanand Rai said that there would not be case census. Central government had also filed an affidavit in Supreme Court that caste census was not possible.
