Nagaland Journalist Bags Padma Award

Kohima, Jan 26 : The President of India has approved the conferment of Padma Awards to 128 distinguished personalities, 4 Padma Vibhushan, 17 Padma Bhushan and 107 Padma Shri this year. T Senka Ao, renowned journalist of Nagaland and the Editor in Chief of Ao Milen, the oldest Newspaper in Nagaland, is among the 107 persons to receive the prestigious Padma Shri award this year. He has been recognised for his contribution to Literature and Education.
Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Tuesday took to Twitter to congratulate him. ā€œCongratulations, T Senka Ao on being conferred with the Padma Shri in the field of Literature and Education. It’s a moment of pride for Nagaland as he gets the fourth-highest civilian award of the Republic of India. We’re proud of his exemplary contributions and accomplishments,ā€ he tweeted. Born in Mokokchung Town on June 6, 1945, Ao was popularly known for his 20 years stint as the Editor in Chief of Ao Milen, the oldest Newspaper in Nagaland started in 1933.
During the same, he was credited for creating the famous ‘Alokba’ character, known for his witty commentary on social and current issues. Meanwhile, two Police officials of Nagaland have been awarded the Police Medal for Distinguished Service and Police Medal for Meritorious Service on the 73rd Republic Day programme today. According to official sources, the Dimapur Commissioner of Police Rothihu Tetseo will receive the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service, while Rankathung Vikram Ezung, AIGP (OPS) in Kohima will be conferred with the Police Medal for Meritorious Service.
Rothihu Tetseo from Nagaland has been conferred with different services awards announced by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on the eve of Republic Day. As per the MHA release, Tetseo was among 88 personnel from various State police forces or central agencies selected for receiving President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service.
