Kashmir Gets Snow, Rains
Srinagar, Jan 19 : Parts of the Kashmir Valley including the upper reaches on Wednesday received fresh snowfall while the plains were lashed by rains, disrupting normal life.
The upper reaches of north Kashmir include Kupwara, Baramulla, Tangmarg and the ski resort of Gulmarg.
Kokernag in south Kashmir and Shopian besides Baflaiz on the Mughal road also received snow. Snow also fell in Pahalgam, Sonamarg and the Pir Panjal mountain range.
Srinagar and its adjoining areas were lashed by rains. The weather office forecast a fresh spell of rain and snow over the weekend but ruled out any major wet weather till the end of this month.
The MeT office predicted light rains and snow at scattered places in Jammu and Kashmir on January 22-23.
Meanwhile, Srinagar recorded a low of 2.7 degrees Celsius against 1.1 degrees the previous day. Gulmarg in north Kashmir settled at minus 6 degrees Celsius for a second consecutive day. Pahalgam in south Kashmir saw a low of minus 1.9 degrees Celsius, against minus 0.7 degree a day earlier.
The temperature at Kupwara was 1.2 degrees Celsius, at Leh in Ladakh minus 11.4 degrees and at Kargil 11.6 degrees. Drass recorded a low of minus 19.2 degrees Celsius.
