Heavy Turnout Reported As Some 13 pc Vote Polled In First Two Hrs In Four Civic Bodies In Bengal.
Kolkata, Feb 12 : Barring some stray incidents, nearly 13 per cent vote was polled in the first two hours as polling to four municipal corporations of Asansol, Bidhannagar, Siliguri and Chandannagar in West Bengal’s four districts began at 7 am amid tight security arrangements on Saturday, official sources said. While Asansol in Bardhaman recorded 13.44 per cent, Bidhannagar in North 24 Parganas polled 13,69 pc, Chandranagar in the Hooghly reported 11.19 pc and Siliguri in Darjeeling district had 12,62 pc in the first two hours under Covid-19 protocol.
Source said the voting will be held till 5 pm and results will be declared on February 14. The electorate, majority of them women, were seen queuing up from early morning before the polling began at their respective centers, where they were undergoing thermal checking and sanitization before entering the covered room where EVMs are set up. Armed state police personnel were deployed to face any eventuality.
