Headmistress Suspended Over Namaz Inside Class Room
Kolar (Karnataka), Jan 28 : The Karnataka Education Department has suspended a headmistress of a government school here for allowing Muslim students to offer namaz inside the classroom. Uma Devi was suspended following an inquiry held by Block Education Officer Girijeswari Devi. The probe held Uma Devi guilty.
Earlier, a few Hindu outfits had staged protests after a video purportedly depicting Muslim students offering namaz in the classroom went viral on Friday. The Muslim students were given permission to pray during the break but there are no provisions under the rule book to offer prayers inside the classroom, Girijeshwari Devi said.
Earlier, the headmistress had defended herself by saying the Muslim students offered namaz in her absence and she did not give permission for it. Education Minister B C Nagesh had warned of action against the headmistress. Such incidents should not happen in schools, he said.
