Delhi Temp Likely To Touch 45 C: IMD
New Delhi, May 15: There was no respite to Delhiites from the scorching heat on Sunday as well, as the mercury is likely to touch 45 degrees Celsius, as per the India Meteorological Department.
The weather agency, however, predicated a “dust or thunderstorm” on Monday with a maximum temperature likely to hover around 41 degrees.
A ‘yellow’ alert has been issued to caution people about a heatwave on Sunday. This is the fifth heatwave, one in March and three in April, in the capital this summer season. In its weather bulletin IMD said, “Heat Wave to severe heatwave conditions in isolated pockets very likely over Punjab & Haryana-Delhi on 14th and 15th; over Uttar Pradesh on 14th with heatwave conditions in some/isolated parts on 15th May.”
Earlier, the weather agency issued an “orange alert” for the heatwave in Delhi, predicting that the mercury may soar to 46-47 degrees Celsius.
On Saturday, the maximum temperature in Mungeshpur was recorded at 47.2 degrees, while Najafgarh was at 47 degrees Celsius. In the western parts of the country, IMD said there is no change in the weather condition, and heatwaves like to continue in parts of Rajasthan, central Madhya Pradesh, and parts of Maharashtra.
“Heat Wave conditions in most parts with severe heatwave conditions in many parts very likely over West Rajasthan on 14th; heatwave conditions in many parts with severe heatwave conditions in isolated pockets over the same region on 15th May” IMD tweeted.
From May 15, there will some changes in the weather pattern said the IMD and added that the northern region was likely to witness hailstorms or light rain. “Thunderstorm/lightning/gusty winds & hail very likely over Jammu-Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand on 16th & 17th May. Isolated light rainfall with thunderstorm/lightning very likely over north Punjab on 16th & 17th & over East Uttar Pradesh during 16th-17th May” IMD said.
