Child Rights Panel Seeks Bogtui Carnage Report Within 3 Days
Kolkata, March 23: The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) on Wednesday sought an action taken report (ATR) within three days from the West Bengal Police regarding the torching of houses in Bogtui village which left six women and two children dead early Tuesday. Though the police have confirmed eight deaths, the NCPCR said it has received a complaint that ten women and children were burnt alive. Principal Private Secretary to the chairperson of NCPCR Dharmendra Pradhan sought the report from the Superintendent of Police, Birbhum district, Nagendra Nath Tripathi.
Pradhan in his letter stated that the “Commission is in receipt of the complaint in which it has come to know that a socio-political civil war started at the behest of the political party at the helm of power in West Bengal. Women and children have been the worst affected. “As per the complaint, TMC (ruling Trinamool Congress) activists in the Rampurhat area under Birbhum district, set ablaze multiple houses, as a result of which around 10 women and children were burnt alive”. The letter, also copied to West Bengal Director General of Police Manoj Malavia said the Commission has taken cognisance of the complaint Under the relevant section of the Commissions for Protection of Child Rights Act, 2005. “Accordingly, request your good offices to conduct an investigation in the said matter and ensure the safety and security of these children“. The Commission also directed the Birbhum SP that the ATR on the matter be shared with the Commission within three days.
