AAPs’ Free Electricity Programme Gains Momentum
New Delhi, April 12 : Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann indicated that his government in Punjab may implement the poll promise of free electricity in the state after he met Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday at his residence in Delhi. The meeting between the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) CMs lasted for two hours where they discussed ‘free 300 units of electricity to Punjab households as promised by the party during the state assembly election, according to the sources. In a tweet posted after the meeting, Mann said that he will soon share “a good news” with the people of Punjab. The sources also informed that the meeting was also attended by Delhi Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Manish Sisodia and Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema. “Had a very good meeting with our leader and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal Ji. Very soon I will give a good news to the people of Punjab,” his tweet read. Kejriwal shared Mann’s tweet and said the people of the country are tired of corrupt politicians and political parties. “Together we will change Delhi, Punjab and the whole country. People are very upset and sad. Tired of dirty and corrupt politics of politicians and parties. We have to work day and night for the people,” his tweet read. The AAP had promised to provide 300 units of free electricity in Punjab during the election. It was promoted as one of the “Kejriwal’s guarantees” to the people of Punjab. However, opposition parties have objected to Kejriwal’s meddling in Punjab affairs and alleged the AAP’s national convenor for “remote controlling” the Punjab Government from Delhi. The senior opposition leaders also called Bhagwant Mann a “rubber stamp CM”. The political attack on AAP started after Congress and Akali Dal alleged that Kejriwal held a meeting with Punjab government officials on Monday in the absence of Punjab CM. “Worst was feared, worst happened. @ArvindKejriwal has taken over Punjab much before it was expected to happen. That @BhagwantMann is a rubber stamp was a foregone conclusion already, now Kejriwal has proved it right by chairing Punjab officers’ meeting in Delhi,” said Punjab’s former CM Captain Amarinder Singh. So far, no clarification over the allegation has been received from the AAP.
