Bangkok, March 10: The body of cricket legend Shane Warne has started its final journey from here to his country Australia. Widely regarded as the greatest spinner, Warne passed away on March 4 at a villa on the island of Ko Samui in Thailand.
An autopsy at Bangkok Police Station’s mortuary had confirmed that Warne died of natural causes, a suspected heart attack. Warne’s body was transported to Don Mueang Airport in Bangkok on Thursday morning and it will arrive in Australia on the same night, the Thai police confirmed as reported by news.com.au.
The 52-year-old’s coffin has been draped in an Australian flag as the first picture emerged while it was moved onto a private flight ahead of its return.
Dan Andrews, Premier of Victoria, said that Warne’s state funeral will take place on March 30 following a private family service. Earlier on March 6, Warne’s family had accepted Andrews’ offer of a state funeral to remember the legend.
“There’s nowhere in the world more appropriate to farewell Warnie than the ‘G. Victorians will be able to pay tribute to Shane and his contribution our state, and his sport, at a memorial service at the MCG on the evening of March 30th”, tweeted Andrews.
