Thailand Open: Sindhu Enters QF, Bansod Out

Bangkok, May 19: Ace Indian shuttler P V Sindhu paved her way to the quarterfinals of the Thailand Open on Thursday after beating South Korea’s Sim Yu Jin in straight sets.

In the round-16, Sindhu registered a 21-16, 21-13 straight sets win over Jin to seal the spot in the quarters of the Super 500 tournament.

While, young Malvika Bansod crashed out after losing 16-21, 21-14, 14-21 to Denmark’s Line Chirstophersen.

Sindhu, who is lone Indian left in the fray, will be against familiar foe Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi in the quarters.

In the men’s singles, world championships silver medallist and Kidambi Srikanth withdrew from second-round match and handed a walkover to his opponent Nyat Nguyen of Ireland.

However, the reason behind the withdrawal is unknown. In other matches, mixed doubles team of Ishan Bhatnagar and Tanisha Crasto lost 19-21, 20-22 to sixth seeded Malaysian pair of Goh Soon Huat and Lai Shevon Jemie.

In the women’s doubles, Ashwini Bhat and Shikha Gautam suffered 19-21, 6-21 loss at the hands of Japanese pair Mayu Matsumoto and Wakana Nagahara.
