Bengaluru, Feb 12: Three international players including Australian great Steve Smith and India’s Suresh Raina remained unsold in the IPL 2022 Mega Auction here on Saturday. There were no buyers in the first bid for Raina, who placed his base price at Rs 2 crore. Smith and Shakib Al Hasan also went unsold in the opening bid.
Raina, who was released by Chennai Super Kings after the 2021 edition, had represented the Chennai Super Kings since the inaugural edition of the IPL barring in 2016 and 2017 when the franchise was banned. The southpaw had captained the now defunct Gujarat Lions during the two seasons before making a return to Chennai Super Kings. Smith played for Delhi Capitals in the 2021 edition and led the Rajasthan Royals in 2019 and 2020.
