Shreyas, Kagiso Most Expensive In IPL Auction
Bengaluru, Feb 12: As expected, star Indian batsman Shreyas Iyer was the first signing worth Rs 10 crore or above of the mega 2022 Tata IPL Auction here on Saturday. He was snapped up by Kolkata Knight Riders for Rs 12.25 crore as the marquee players went under the hammer. Iyer was expected to have a big cheque day.
Punjab Kings, who had the fattest purse, began the auction by buying Shikhar Dhawan and Kagiso Rabada for Rs 8.25 crore and Rs 9.25 crore respectively. Delhi Capitals bid first on these players but dropped both and also R Ashwin. In other early updates, Kolkata Knight Riders bought back their pace spearhead Pat Cummins for Rs 7.25 crore while Ashwin was sold to Rajasthan Royals for Rs 5 crore.
Royals also got hold of Trent Boult for Rs 8 crore after a tough competition. Australia opening batsman David Warner was sold to Delhi Capitals for Rs 6.25. He was sacked by Sunrisers Hyderabad, last season and dropped from the team. However, he bounced back with the bat a few weeks later as Australia went on to win the T20 World Cup.
