Its A Matter Of Getting First Win: Zaheer
Pune, April 10: After suffering fourth loss in a row in the Indian Premeir League (IPL) Mumbai Indians’ director of cricket operations Zaheer Khan believed that it was only “a matter of a first win” to get some momentum going.
The five-time champions had a worst start as they fell to fourth loss of the season against Royal Challengers Bangalore here in Pune on Saturday.
“We have to keep working on the positives because it’s a long season, have to keep things tight and together. Today, there were momentum-shifting situations which we needed to close out,” Zaheer said in a post-match press conference on Saturday.
“There are still 10 matches left, we need to get on a roll. It’s a matter of getting that first win, you can start doubting yourself when the pressure is this high but you have to look at a spark in the group. Individuals having a good day need to get us that win”.
Reacting on taking the field with only two overseas players in their line-up against RCB, Zaheer revealed that it was done to give some much-needed balance to the team. “We felt this combination gave us the balance we wanted, someone like Jaydev Unadkat needed a go as he was bowling well in the nets. The conditions also suited his style. The wicket was a bit two-paced and it had something for bowlers who hit the seam,” he said.
On April 13, Mumbai will take on Punjab Kings here at Maharashtra Cricket Stadium.
