New Delhi, May 18: Hockey India on Wednesday named a nine-member men’s hockey team which will represent the country in the inaugural edition of the FIH Hockey 5s to be held at Lausanne, Switzerland, on June 5 and 6. Hockey 5s is a super-fast, highly skillful, short format of hockey which is designed to be adaptable to multiple surfaces, environments and space.
Hockey5s is an invasion game played between two teams with 4 field players and a goalkeeper. India will play Malaysia, Pakistan, Poland and hosts Switzerland. India will be captained by Gurinder Singh and Sumit will be his deputy.
The team is a mix of players from the Olympic bronze medal winning squad as well as the FIH Junior World Cup held last year.
The team is scheduled to leave from Bengaluru on June 1.
