India Lose To NZ By 3 Wickets In 2nd WODI
Queenstown (New Zealand), Feb 15: The Indian women lost the second One-Day International by three wickets on Tuesday at the John Davies Oval and now trail 0-2 in the five-match ODI series. Riding on Amelia Kerr’s unbeaten 119-run knock, New Zealand chased down the 271-run target with six balls remaining.
Chasing the total, White Ferns wobbled at 55/3 when Deepti Sharma dismissed Suzie Bates for 33 in the fifth over. Rajeshwari Gayakwad removed Sophie Devine (16) in the eighth over. Amy Satterthwaite went soon after Devine had gone to a special catch off. Then, Amelia along with Maddy Green (52) resurrected the innings with a stand of 128 runs for the fourth wicket. Poonam Yadav gave India a breakthrough by removing Green in the 35th over. Harmanpreet Kaur dismissed Brooke Halliday (13).
Katey Martin and Hayley Jensen got bowled off Deepti. Amelia played the anchor’s role despite India chipping away at the wickets and gave her side a 2-0 lead in the series by registering a three-wicket win over the visitors. For India, Deepti scalped four wickets. Gayakwad , Yadav and Kaur got one wicket apiece. Batting first, Sabbhineni Meghana and Shafali Verma gave India a flying start as they stitched a 61-run partnership for the first wicket.
Rosemary Mair broke the stand as Verma got caught in the 12th over for 24. Then, Meghana and Yastika Bhatia contributed 49 runs before Devine removed Bhatia for 31. Amelia denied Meghana a half century as she dismissed the latter for 49. Harmanpreet fell for 10 off Fran Jonas and India was reeling at 135/5. Captain Mithali Raj (66*) and Richa Ghosh (65) helped India post a total of 270/6 on the board. For New Zealand, Devine claimed two wickets. Jess, Mair, Jonas amd Amelia chipped in with a wicket each.
