Deaflympics: Deshwal bags India’s third gold
Caxias do Sul (Brazil), May 7 : The 14-year-old shooter Abhinav Deshwal finished on top in 10m Air Pistol event to win India’s third gold at the Deaflympics. Deshwal defeated Ukraine’s Oleksii Lazebnyk in a thrilling final shoot-off to grab the top spot of the podium on Friday. The Indian was tied with Ukraine’s Oleksii Lazebnyk at 234.2 in the allotted series and the medal was decided through shoot-off. In the shoot-off, where each shooter would take a single shot and the one with the higher score will be declared winner, Deshwal shot 10.3 and the Ukrainian managed to score 9.7 . The other Indian in the action, Shubham Vashist finished sixth among the eight finalists with a score of 152.9. In the qualification, Deshwal and Korea’s South Korea’s Kim Kihyeon shot identical scores of 575 but the Indian finished second on the basis of lesser number of inner 10s. The Korean had 22x compared to Deshwal’s 15x. After Deshwals triumph, India’s medal reached to five with 3 gold and two bronze medals.
