Bawa, Hangargekar Become First-Time Crorepatis
Bengaluru, Feb 13 : India U19 cricketers Raj Angad Bawa and Rajvardhan Hangargekar became first-time millionaires after they were picked up by Punjab Kings and Chennai Super Kings on Day 2 of the IPL Auction 2022 here on Sunday. Bawa was signed for an amount of Rs 2 crore, while Hangargekar for Rs 1.5 crore. Both U19 players had played crucial roles in India’s World Cup-winning campaign in the West Indies.
In a blistering innings, Bawa had surpassed Shikhar Dhawan’s tally of an unbeaten 155 to become highest individual scorer in the U19 WC after he cracked an unbeaten 162 runs in the match against Uganda. Bawa, who comes from a family having a rich legacy in sports, was Man of the Match in the U19 World Cup final between India and England, where he had bagged five wickets and smashed crucial 35 runs in India’s fifth title win.
A powerful left-handed batter and a right-arm medium-fast, Bawa amassed 252 runs in five innings at an average of 63 and scalped nine wickets in the six innings and returned with an economy of 4.50. His grandfather, late Tarlochan Bawa, was a member of the Indian hockey team that won the gold at the 1948 London Olympics and his father Sukhwinder Bawa had coached players like Yuvraj Singh and VRV Singh.
On the other hand, Hangargekar had a good time at U19 World Cup with his express bowling, which was spiced up with subtle variations. In the five matches he played, he scalped four wickets. Besides, the well-built Maharashtra cricketer has the potential to smoke the ball over the ropes with bestial power. He had fired three sixes in a row to make an unbeaten 37 in a match against Ireland.
