Melbourne, Jan 22 : World no 2 Daniil Medvedev of Russia secured a fourth consecutive Australian Open Round 4 appearance by dismantling Botic van de Zandschulp in straight sets on Saturday.
The second seed Russian defeated unseeded Zandschulp 6-4, 6-4, 6-2 in a Round 3 match at the Margaret Court Arena.
Meanwhile, world no 4 Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas registered a 6-3, 7-5, 6(2)-7(7), 6-4 win over Frenchman Benoit Paire and stormed into Round 4.
“Of course I don’t want to stop at the fourth round but I’m really happy. At the Grand Slam, every round is very tough and even today if the score doesn’t show this, I feel like it was a tighter match than the score,” said Medvedev.
Medvedev will be up against American Maxime Cressy while Tsitsipas will next face Taylor Fritz.
