India Test Fires Brahmos In Andaman & Nicobar Islands

New Delhi, March 23 : Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) on Wednesday conducted the successful test firing of extended range surface to surface Brahmos missile in Andaman and Nicobar islands. The missile hit the target with pinpoint accuracy, said officials. IAF Chief Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari and Commander-in-Chief of the Andaman & Nicobar Command Lt Gen Ajai Singh witnessed the successful launch on the island. The IAF Chief congratulated the team for the successful launch. Developed by India-Russia joint venture BrahMos Aerospace, the missile is equipped with stealth technology and a guidance system with advanced software for precise target acquisition. The nuclear capable missile is one of the fastest supersonic cruise missiles in the world. It can be launched from submarine, ships, aircraft or land. The IAF Chief was accompanied by Mrs Neeta Chaudhari on his maiden visit to the Andaman & Nicobar Command. He was also presented a Guard of Honour at INS Utkrosh and later discussed defence preparedness with Lt Gen Ajai Singh and other officials. The Brahmos was also test fired from a land based launcher in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands last month. Another successful test was conducted in January this year when the Brahmos was test fired from the Integrated Test Range Chandipur off Odisha.
