Nawab Malik Approaches High Court, Seeks Quashing Of ED Case
Mumbai, Mar 1: Maharashtra Minorities Development Minister Nawab Malik, who was arrested for his alleged involvement in a money laundering case, on Tuesday approached the Bombay High Court, claiming that his arrest was illegal and also sought quashing of the Special Court’s order remanding him to ED’s custody till March 3.
Upon hearing the plea on initial stages, the Division Bench of Justices SS Shinde and NR Borkar directed that the matter be placed before an appropriate bench tomorrow. In his plea, Malik had challenged his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering case involving the family members of underworld don Ibrahim Kaskar in a property deal. The plea also claimed that Malik was illegally arrested for being a “vocal critique of the misuse of Central agencies.”
The matter was mentioned by Advocates Taraq Sayed and Kushal Mor. On February 23, Malik was arrested by by the Enforcement Directorate, based on NIA’s FIR against underworld gangster Dawood Ibrahim.
