Patna, May 13: Patna High Court on Friday issued warrant of arrest against Sahara supremo Subroto Roy after he failed to appear in person before the court for second consecutive day in connection with the hearing of a petition relating to a large number of investors demanding for the return of money.
Justice Sandeep Kumar, during the hearing of a bunch of petitions, filed seeking a directive to Sahara supremo Subroto Roy to return money to a large number of investors, issued a warrant of arrest against Roy after he failed to appear before the court despite directed on Thursday to be present in person on Friday at any cost.
The court directed police chiefs of three states including Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi to ensure the presence of Roy by arresting him. Justice Kumar did not accept the medical documents presented before the court seeking relief from his appearance in person. Advocate of Roy submitted that Roy was suffering with serious health complications and he was unable to appear before the court.
Justice Kumar said there was nothing serious in medical reports that Roy could not appear before the court. The court had expressed his anguish on Thursday over failure of Subroto Roy in appearing before the court and directed him to appear at any cost on Friday. The court had also remarked that Roy was not above the law and he would have to appear before the court personally.
Earlier on April 27, the lawyer of Sahara India, complying the orders of the Judge had come forward with some alternate methods for returning the amount of investors of Bihar. The Judge, however, was not convinced and ordered for physical appearance of Subroto Roy on May 11 to explain how he would return the money of investors of Bihar.
Sahara chief could not appear on May 11 making the court furious. It may be recalled that Patna High Court was hearing more than 2000 cases related to the alleged fraudulent activities of Sahara India, filed before it.
