Russian Plan To Capture Me Flopped: Zelensky
Kyiv, Feb 26: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who has been constantly been live on video addresses, said on Saturday his country’s forces have stopped a Russian plan to capture him.
Russians planned to capture and neutralise him overnight and install their own leader, he added. He also urged Russians to pressure President Vladimir Putin to stop the invasion. “We’ve derailed their plan,” Zelensky said. Ukrainian forces were in control of Kyiv and the main cities around it, he added.
He said his country has earned the right to be a member of the European Union. Ukraine is not currently a member of the EU, but has enshrined in its constitution its aspirations to join the European bloc, the BBC said.
Kyiv imposed a 5 pm curfew. Kyiv’s Mayor Vitali Klitschko announced the new curfew for the Ukrainian capital from between 5 pm to 8 am local time. The measure comes into force from Saturday, replacing the previous 10 pm to 7 am.
Klitschko tweeted: “All civilians on the street during the curfew will be considered members of the enemy’s sabotage and reconnaissance groups.”
