‘Offensive Continues As Kyiv Rejected Peace Talks’
Moscow, Feb 26: Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered a suspension of the military action against Ukraine on Friday afternoon, expecting peace talks with Kyiv, but resumed the operation as President Volodymyr Zelensky rejected the offer, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Saturday.
“Yesterday afternoon, due to the expected negotiations with the Ukrainian leadership, the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, the President of Russia, ordered the suspension of the advance of the main forces of the Russian troops [in Ukraine],” Peskov told the press.
However, the fighting continued in some areas due to attacks by Ukrainian nationalists, he noted.
“Since the Ukrainian side de facto refused to negotiate, the advance of the main Russian forces resumed this afternoon in accordance with the plan of the operation,” Peskov added.
