When PM Told Saugata Roy, You Retire First…
New Delhi, Feb 1 : Senior AITC leader and former Minister of State for Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs Saugata Roy on Tuesday requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the Lok Sabha to remove West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar. It was when Lok Sabha Speaker adjourned the House after presentation of Union Budget by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi went to Opposition benches and exchanged pleasantries with leaders, including Roy. Later, when UNI asked Roy as to what transpired between him and the Prime Minister, Roy said that he urged Modi to “remove West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar for creating trouble for the state government.” Giving further details to UNI, Saugata Roy said that he requested the Prime Minister that the West Bengal governor has been interfering in the functioning of a constitutionally elected government.
Upon asking about Modi’s response, Roy said, “Prime Minister Modi replied in jest and said- First you retire, we shall call him back later. I asked twice but Modi did not reply anything directly.” When UNI asked what exactly was Prime Minister Narendra Modi trying to convey and how should his response be interpreted, Roy said, “I can’t say… he may mean first you retire and come over to our side, then we will think about removing Dhankhar, or it may just be a joke only.” West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and governor Jagdeep Dhankhar have for long been engaged in a bitter war of words. Mamata Banerjee on Monday said she blocked the Governor on Twitter, as she was disturbed by his regular posts against her government.
