Law Doing Its Work: Channi On Nephew Arrest
Jalandhar, Feb 4: Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi’s nephew Bhupinder Singh Honey was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday night in an alleged money laundering case related to illegal sand mining.
The ED summoned Honey to its office on Thursday for questioning. He was quizzed by officers for more than eight hours under the supervision of its Director Amit Dua regarding money laundering and sand mining. Late in the night, Honey was taken to the Civil Hospital after he got nervous. He was then brought back to the office and will be produced in a court on Friday.
The ED raided Honey’s premises about two weeks ago and recovered Rs. 8 crore cash and other valuables. The case pertains to a FIR lodged by Punjab Police against Honey’s partner Kudrat Deep Singh of Ludhiana and 25 others on March 7, 2018 at the Rahon police station of Nawanshahr under the Mines and Minerals Act as well as the Indian Penal Code.
The ED too had taken up the illegal sand mining case to probe the PMLA angle by tracking the account details of the accused.
Meanwhile, while commenting on the arrest of his nephew, CM Channi on Friday said that the law is doing its work and he had no objections. The Chief Minister, who was in Barnala, stated this when asked to comment on the arrest of his nephew Honey.
Reacting on the arrest of CM Channi’s nephew, former minister and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia said, “CM Charanjit Singh Channi has only cared about Channi, Honey and money. Initially, money was seized, then Honey was arrested, and now is the turn of Channi because Honey’s only identity is that he is newphew of CM Channi.”
Majithia is contesting assembly election against Punjab Congress president Navjot Singh Sidhu from Amritsar East constituency.
