Odisha: Metro Rail Project to be completed in four years

Bhubaneswar, Oct 29 : Metro Rail Project connecting the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, whose foundation would be laid on January 1 next, will be completed in four years.

Chairman 5T V K Pandian, who, on the advice of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, reviewed the progress of the project at Trisulia Square in Cuttack with senior officials on Sunday, asked the officials to complete the project within the stipulated time of four years.

He said Trisulia will emerge as a major transport hub to serve Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. Phase I of the Metro Rail project will connect Bhubaneswar Airport with Trisulia Square in Cuttack.

The Metro rail project was announced by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on April 1, 2023, on the Utkal Divas, and the Detailed Project Report (DPR) has already been approved by the Odisha government.

A master plan extending the Metro Rail service to other areas of Bhubaneswar, Khordha, Puri, and Cuttack towns is being developed through Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Ltd.

A new bus stand is being constructed at Trisulia Square, which will be further expanded and integrated with the Metro station.

Pandian asked the officials to complete the preparatory work in time ahead of the foundation stone for the project.

The project work, he said, must be monitored very closely, observing the principles of 5T to ensure the timely completion of the project .

The 5T Chairman asked officials to ensure that other modes of transport are aligned with metro rail stoppages for the seamless movement of passengers.
