Delhi CM Residence Case Adjourned For May 30
New Delhi, May 17: The Delhi High Court on Tuesday adjourned hearing in the case of attack on Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s house to May 30 after telling the police to file a status report in a sealed cover.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Saurabh Bhardwaj filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) against the March 30 attack and vandalization on March.
The court had shown displeasure with the police status report over the incident. Bhardwaj submitted that those charged with protecting the Chief Minister completely abdicated their duty without any regard for the fact that they were protecting an elected constitutional functionary and the fact that he had Z plus security given by Delhi Police itself.
Delhi Police submitted that more security personnel have been deployed at the Chief Minister’s residence and no protest will now be allowed at Civil Lines Metro station. It was submitted that a review of the security has been done and CCTVs have been preserved and are part of the investigation.
Counsel for Bhardwaj sought direction for a Special Investigation Team to undertake an independent, fair and time-bound criminal investigation regarding the attack. The police sought adjournment by submitting that the affidavit was yet to be verified by Additional Solicitor General Sanjay Jain.
Delhi High Court judges Vipin Sanghi and Navin Chawla allowed the request for adjournment with the direction to disclose the reasons for the failure of the arrangement made and fixing responsibility for the lapses in the status report which they said should be given in a sealed cover.
