Congress to protest against Agnipath scheme in 243 assembly seats in Bihar: Kanhaiya
Patna, June 26 : Congress on Sunday announced that the party would protest against theAgnipath recruitment scheme in Armed Forces, in all 243 Assembly seats in Bihar onJune 27, which is a part of a nationwide protest being organised to exert pressure on government to withdraw the new scheme without any further delay.
Senior Congress leader Kanhaiya Kumar told media persons here that the Narendra Modi government had rolled out the ‘Agnipath’ recruitment scheme in the Armed Forces which would compromise the security concern of the country.
Youths would be appointed as Jawans on a contract basis in Armed Forces only for four years and thereafter, they would be shown the door, he added.
“How jawans appointed on contract basis would discharge their responsibility with dedication and commitment, if they felt uncertainties about their future”, Kumar asked. It was not only the question of jobs for youths but also about the serious issue of security concern of the country, he added.
Congress leader announced that his party would organise protests on June 27 in all 243 assembly constituencies against the Agnipath recruitment scheme, which he dubbed as throwing youths
of the country into fire. Even Army veterans had criticised the new recruitment scheme rolled out by the Narendra Modi government, he pointed out.
The ruling party leaders were defending the Agnipath scheme as salesman and highlighting its advantages in their own way to befool the youths, he added.
Kumar said that Jawans should not be appointed on contract basis in Armed Forces. Government should withdraw the new scheme and if any modification was to be done, it should be done by continuing the existing permanent recruitment provisions, he added.
