Congress Takes Dig At MNS Chief
Mumbai, May 10: Taking a dig at Maharashtra Navnirman Sena president Raj Thackeray’s proposed visit to Ayodhya, Congress leader Sachin Sawant said on Tuesday that now, he must have realised how wrong it was to try to usurp rights granted to one by the country’s Constitution and taking recourse to street justice in an unconstitutional manner.
In a series of tweets, Sawant said the same constitution gives Thackeray the right to go anywhere in the country, but he is now being challenged by saints in Ayodhya. “Pro-Hindu Thackeray should have known that if he had bowed down before saints, there would have been no problem for him. But if Thackeray wants to go to Ayodhya without offering an apology, then the ruling Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh is solely responsible for his safety,” he said.
“Raj Thackeray always made serious mistakes, now the saints should not do that,” the Congress leader noted. “This shows what will happen if the Constitution is weakened in the country. The Constitution gave the right to practice religion to 20 crore Muslims.
If the constitution cannot protect them, then the same constitution will not be able to protect you,” he retorted. “No matter how angry BJP is, anger does not suit saints,” Sawant averred and reminded that even Lord Rama had forgiven his step-mother Kaikeyi, who sent him into exile.
