CM Bommai Hints Against Imposing Lockdown Amidst Increasing Covid Cases

Kalaburagi, Jan 4: Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Tuesday hinted against clamping lockdown in the state even as Covid-19 and Omicron cases are on the rise.

“Let us see what the technical advisory committee (TAC) decides on the increasing Covid and Omicron cases in the state. But one thing I would like to tell you is that this time the situation is better than before.

Now we are geared up and arranged for medicines and hospital beds. In the previous wave, our economy also was not good, but now the economy is on the recovery path,” he told reporters here.

Bommai said the government is thinking of imposing more containment steps to check the spread of Coronavirus and Omicron. In this direction, he said that he has convened the meeting of the TAC today evening.

“We are keeping a vigil on the pandemic situation and the spread of Omicron. Today evening, we are having a meeting with TAC and some decisions will be taken to curb the pandemic situation in the state,” he stated.

He said the government has taken strict measures at the border adjoining Maharashtra where there has been a spurt of Omicron and Covid-19 cases.

“We have made RT PCR tests and double vaccination for those entering Karnataka from Maharashtra, and I have directed police officials at small villages to monitor visitors from Maharashtra,” he said.

Bommai said the government has a target of vaccinating around 4.4 lakh children across the state including 30,000 children in Bengaluru on the first day.

The second dose will be administered after 28 days, while booster doses will be given to people aged above 60 with comorbidities after January 10, he said.
