Cal HC Directs CBI To Probe TMC Leader Bhadu Sheikh’s Murder
Kolkata, April 8: Calcutta High Court on Friday directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to probe the murder of TMC leader Bhadu Sheikh along with the Bogtui massacre in which nine people were burnt alive on March 21 in West Bengal’s Birbhum district. A Bench comprising Chief Justice Prakash Shrivastava and Justice Rajarshi Bharadwaj while directing the federal probe agency said, ” It is prima facie of the view that the murder of Sheikh and massacre of nine people are interlinked.”
Bhadu Sheikh, a TMC leader and deputy chief of the ruling party-controlled Panchayat of the areas, was bombed to death by four unidentified miscreants at a tea stall at around 0830 pm on March 21. Nearly half-an-hour later in an act of frenzy a group of people torched some 10 houses at Bogtui in which seven women and a minor were burnt alive in their homes. As per the FIR, most of the houses were completely gutted and also found to have been ransacked.
Calcutta High Court on Friday directed the CBI to conduct a probe into the massacre, which was being investigated by the SIT (special investigating team) of West Bengal police. The CBI counsels on Thursday had batted for the CBI probe into the Bhadu Sheikh murder along with the Bogtui massacre to unravel the truth. Meanwhile, the CBI on Thursday arrested four accused, including Bappa Sheikh and Shabu Sheikh, from a hideout in Mumbai and brought them here on transit remand. UNI
