Ruling BJD Wins 765 Of The 851 Zilla Parishad Seats
Bhubaneswar, Feb 28: The ruling BJD recorded a landslide victory in the three tier Panchayati election by winning 765 Zilla Parishad seats out of the total 85I where the election was held in Odisha.
The two main opposition Political parties— BJP and the Congress finished in a distance second and third position by winning only 42 and 37 Zilla Parishad seats respectively.
While the Independents have won 3 and 4 seats were bagged by others.
In 2017 Panchayt elections the BJD had won 473, the BJP 297 and the Congress 60 Zilla Parishad seats.
The state has 853 Zilla Parishad zones. Elections was held for 851 seats as one was elected uncontested one was countermanded.
The elections to PRI this year was held in five phases from February 16 to 24 and the counting of voters was done in three phases on February 26,27 and 28. As per the final results declared by the State Election Commission here on Tuesday the BJP has failed to open its accounts in ten districts—Bhadrak, Deogarha, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Jharsuguda, Koraput, Malkangiri, Mayurbhanja, Nabarangpur and Rayagada.
Similarly the Congress drew a blank in 17 districts—Anugul, Baragarha, Bhadrak, Boudh, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Ganjam, Jajpur, Jharsuguda, Kendrapara, Keonjhar, Khordha, Mayurbhanja, Nayagarha, Puri, Sambalpur and Sundergarha.
The ruling BJD trounced BJP in its forte in Western Odisha districts. The performance of the BJP was dismal in 2022 Panchayat elections in comparison to 2017 election. The BJP which in 2017 panchayat election had won 169 out of total 212 Zilla Parishad zones in eight districts — Baragarha, Deogarha, Kalahandi, Bolangir, Malkangiri, Sonepur, Sambalpur, Sundergarha and Mayurbhanja, managed to get only 17 seats this time.
In 2017, the BJD which had secured 33 only seats in these eight district made a clean sweep and secured 217 seats this time. The BJD has majority position in all the 30 districts of the state and is scheduled to form Zilla Parishadas in all the 30 districts of the state.
BJD Supremo and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik thanked all for their love and helping BJD to win the three tier Panchayat election. He said this verdict has strengthen ”our commitment to serve and congratulated all BJD workers and the winning BJD candidates for making BJD a movement through their dedicated work.
