Pramodini Roul Acid Attack Case: 14-Year RI To Prime Accused
Bhubaneswar, May 9: In the 2009 Pramodini Roul acid attack case, a local court in Jagatsinghpur district, on Monday has sentenced 14 years rigorous imprisonment (RI) to the prime accused Santosh Kumar Bedanta.
Along with the RI, the Additional District Judge Court, Jagatsinghpur, slapped the convict with Rs 15,000 fine.
The acid attack survivor’s husband Saroj Sahu and her mother were present inside the court-room during hearing.
Pramodini’s life was changed when the paramilitary jawan Santosh Kumar Bedanta attacked her with acid on May 4, 2009, in Jagatsinghpur after she rejected his marriage proposal.
She was only 16 years old when the incident occurred. She suffered 80 percent burns and lost her vision. She was in ICU for around nine months and spent a painful life for long 5 years in hospitals for the prolonged and critical treatment.
On May 1, 2021, Pramodini tied the her nuptial knot with her friend Saroj Sahu setting an example of true love for one and all.
