Padma Shri Shanti Devi Passes Away
Bhubaneswar: Famous Social worker and Padma Shri Shanti Devi breathed her last Sunday night at her residence in Gunupur in Rayagada district of Odisha.
Shanti Devi was born on 18th April 1934.
The social worker started a small Ashram in Koraput and later established Seva Samaj at Rayagada.
Seva Samaj was formed for the all round development of the girl child.
Then it was a never ending journey of social work where she went on to set up another Ashram at Gunpur.
This ashram worked towards the education, rehabilitation, vocational training of orphans and destitute children.
Devi was known for her invaluable contribution for the upliftment of tribal girls through education.
As one of the main pioneer of social service movement, she had been honoured with ‘Padma Shri’, one of the most prestigious civilian awards of the country in the year 2021.
