Odisha Govt Terminates Services Of IAS Officer Vinod Kumar On Corruption Charges
Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Wednesday has terminated the services of senior IAS officer Vinod Kumar after he was proved guilty in corruption charges.
An order has been passed by the state government following the Centre’s approval.
The 1989-batch IAS officer and a former manager of ORHDC was convictedon charges of corruption and cheating during his tenure in 2018.
Reportedly, after the 1999 super cyclone, Kumar during his tenure as the Managing Director of ORHDC had extended loans amounting to Rs 33.34 crore to fake private firms and individuals without adhering to prescribed guidelines.
Subsequently, the Government filed 26 vigilance cases against Kumar.
The Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar found Kumar and five others guilty in connection with the 2001 scam which ran into crores of rupees and awarded them rigorous imprisonment of three years.
In one of the two cases in which he was summoned by the court, he was facing criminal conspiracy with other corruption officials and a realtor Jagannath Rath of Puri to whom he has sanctioned 46.9 lakh in guise of 19 indiviual loans without proper scrutiny during 2000-01.
In the second case, he conspired Niranjan Parida of Gajanan property dealer to whom he santioned Rs 41.26 lakh on pretext of loans to 12 individuals.
