Caste census back in focus before K’taka polls and a shot in the arm of Nitish Ku as anchor

By D N Singh

Will an united voice for caste census re-inforce Indian opposition under Nitish Kumar as an anchor man.

Man held in Gujarat's Surat for issuing death threat to Bihar CM Nitish Kumar- The New Indian Express

With the Karntaka Assembly polls in the focus, palpably all the opposition parties including the Congress seem toeing the Nitish Kumar model to usher in caste based census for the polls.

It was first Nitish Kumar who attempted for it in total disregard to the Centre’s to brace up  for caste census and still maintains that.

Although records show that the Odisha government had also voiced in its favour but not as frontally as Bihar.

Then Rahul Gandhi who had raised the issue during the Bharat Jodo Yatra has now pitched for it again although the BJP tried to paint Rahul in an anti-OBC colour but Rahul is no mood to shift its focus.

However, the Congress scion also changed his ‘Modi’  narrative after the Kolar issues and has came back to the basics like to make the Socio Economic Caste Census data public so that the OBC population can be known and also demanded to lift the 50% cap on reservations.

Now the Congress president Karge and Chhatishgarh chief minister come out in for a demand for SECC data

Obviously it is a swift change in policy focus of the Congress for Caste census suddenly as an electoral plank for Karnataka and the General elections.
