Puri, July 29: About 400 homeless Sri Jagannath temple servitors will get houses soon.
The temple managing body had passed a budget to provide houses to homeless servitors which was approved by the state government.
In the first phase under the ABHADA Yojna land was acquired from Mahiprakash mutt located at Harchandi Sah for construction of 400 apartments over three acres of land.
The compound wall construction has begun, temple administrator A K Jena said on Friday.
Every homeless servitor will be provided a 600 sq. feet apartment. For that 400 numbers G+3 floor apartments will be constructed. The colony will have all basic facilities.
Another patch of land of Emar mutt at Matimandop sahi has been acquired for developing a housing complex for 250 more servitor families in the second phase.
The housing complex will be constructed with the financial assistance from state housing and urban department and Prime Minister Awas Yojna,Jena said
He said a survey conducted by the Gopabandhu Choudhury institute for socio economic studies revealed that there are 2236 servitor families, mostly poor live in small houses with little basic provisions.
