Kiran Mazumdar Shaw Asks Bommai To Resolve Religious Divide

Bengaluru, March 31: Amid the efforts of Hindu organisations keeping out Muslim traders from temple festivals in Karnataka, Biocon Ltd Executive Chairperson Kiran Mazumdar Shaw has urged Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai to resolve the matter related to religious divide.

In a late night tweet on Wednesday, Shaw said, “Karnataka has always forged inclusive economic development and we must not allow such communal exclusion- If ITBT became communal it would destroy our global leadership. @BSBommai please resolve this growing religious divide.” She was replying to a tweet, which referred to a report published in The Indian Express, “Unease grows, Karnataka temple committees, traders admit pressure.” Shaw further said that Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai was a very progressive leader and would resolve the issue soon.

Meanwhile, Bommai said the trend of not buying halal meat from Muslims has nothing to do with rules, but practice. However, the state government will look into it after serious objections have been raised against it, he added. Vishwa Prasanna Teertha Swami of renowned Peejawar Mutt has said the reason for this situation was a reaction to certain injustices meted out to the Hindus. A delegation comprising religious leaders and traders from Muslim and Christian communities had met the seer and sought his intervention to end the differences between the communities. The meeting took place in the background of hijab row and ban on Muslim vendors around the temples, besides boycott call and Hindu groups asking Hindus not to buy halal meat from Muslims during Ugadi.
