Expert Team Inspects 12th Century Jagannath Temple
Puri (Odisha), July 4: An expert team comprising structural and chemical engineers has inspected the sanctum sanctorum of Sri Jagannath temple, its Natamandop and Jagamohan in this pilgrim town of Odisha.
According to the Chief of the Committee NC Pal, the inner wall of the sanctum sanctorum will be cleaned with a chemical solution while the floor of the temple kitchen will be relaid with new stone slabs.
He said the structural stability of Jagamohan and Natamandop is in good condition. The ongoing silver plating of “Kalahat dwar”, the main door of the sanctum sanctorum will be completed before July 10 next.
Arun Kumar Mullick the superintending archaeologist of Bhubaneswar ASI circle said after due clearance from DG Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), CCTV cameras will be installed in the temple complex and ventilation systems in the Garbhagriha put in place.
Prof. Arun Menon of IIT Chennai, Conservation superintendent engineer Bheema from Delhi, Chemical engineer Ranjana Puskar, superintendent Odisha circle of ASI Arun Mullick and core committee chief NC Pal had inspected various areas of the temple on Saturday.
Experts will meet the temple administration, and officials of the state government and discuss the status of the temple and the repairs to be conducted.
Every year while the presiding deities of the Jagannath temple visit the Gundicha temple during the Ratha Yatra, a mandatory inspection of sanctum sanctorum is undertaken by experts, and if needed repairs are done before the deities return to the temple.
