Excavation Starts At Historic Emara Mutt To Trace Hidden Treasure
Puri, Feb 4: In a bid to find out the hidden treasures, the Puri district administration on Friday began excavation at the historic Emara Mutt in Puri.
The excavation was being carried out at three places on the premises of the mutt which were marked by metal detectors in September last year.
The district administration landed at the religious institution premises with equipment including a metal detector as a search has been launched to trace the hidden treasure at the Emara Matha.
It is believed that a huge treasure of gold, silver and jewels has been hidden in the Emara monastery.
Notably, in the year April 2021, police recovered 45 silver ingots weighing about 35 kg each. Besides, 522 silver ingots, weighing about 18 tonnes were recovered from the mutt on February 26, 2011.
The mutt which stands as a testimony of Ramanujacharya’s arrival at Puri and his influence on the traditions of the temple is not only a heritage building but also a sacred place of worship for Vaishnavas.
