Asani Preparedness: 11 Fishermen Airlifted; Odisha Govt’s Mission ‘Zero Casualty’
Bhubaneswar, May 9: Odisha government’s Mission ‘Zero Casualty’ and committed calamity preparedness has shown its positive results before onset of Cyclone Asani. More than 11 fishermen have been airlifted to safety by the personnel of the Indian Coast Guard, who were stranded in Bay of Bengal today near Sunapur in Ganjam Coast.
Odisha Special Relief Commissioner PK Jena informed about the development at a press meet on Monday.
Reported to be residents from Chikiti area of Ganjam district, these fishermen were returning from Vishakhapatnam to Ganjam on a boat. However, due to some technical glitches in the boat, they were left stuck in the sea around 1 km from the coast near Sunapur in Ganjam, Jena told reporters.
The co-ordinated and immediate action by the SRC Office, Coast Guard DIG at Paradip and the Ganjam dist. Collector has made this operation a success, SRC Jena said.
The SRC office coordinated with the Coast Guard DIG at Paradip following which a rescue operation was immediately launched with the help of a chopper.
