War Is Over But Far From A Lasting Peace
By D N Singh
The war between Russia and Ukraine is akin to a situation in the novel by Garcia Marquez, ‘Nobody Writes To The Colonnel’. A man who braved the enemies resting against no wall, left in the labyrinth of untold hardships working as a miner waiting endlessly for the final letter from the authorities due to him. Which never came.
The recent war started on February 24 early hours but the so called NATO allies led by Joe Biden had created an air of panic for Vladimir Putin much before. Thus, perhaps, falsely trying to bolster the spirit of the Ukraine Prez Volodymyr Zelenskyy to take on Russia.
‘My country had been “left alone” to fight Russia after the Kremlin announced a “special military operation” in the Donbas region. “We have been left alone to defend our state,” Zelenskyy said in a video address. “Who is ready to fight alongside us? I don’t see anyone.”
He had talked to 27 countries but none responded in his help.
The above statements make us to read the pathetic transformation of bravery of Zelenskyy to see reality at the bottom. Alongwith him, his country’s dream of over two decades to join the league of NATO has, for now, crashed.
And it also make us believe that, war is never a solution.
And by exhibiting his cool, ever after entering the capital of Ukraine, Putin has simply a message for the US and its cohorts that, this is no time for hegemony and time has lapsed for an unipolar world.
It was a waiting phase for the Russians to test their own patience over getting hounded by the Nato alliance and get Russia had its teeth chipped.
Regardless of his earlier clamors to take on Russia alone, obviously under the illusion of the military support of the NATO, Zelenskyy at last chose the wiser recourse and saved several lives of thousands of civilians and children in particular.
Besides the strategic security issues, it had turned to a clash of ego in which Putin has outedged Zelenskyy. But it would make him a bigger victor if he (Putin) says sorry to the families in Ukraine who lost their dear ones.
