SC To Hear EWS Quota Case On Wednesday
New Delhi, Jan 4: The Supreme Court will on Wednesday hear a case related to reservation of Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) category in NEET admissions for Post-Graduate courses.
The apex court on Tuesday said it will see if a special bench can be constituted to hear the matter.
A bench headed by Chief Justice NV Ramana decided on the hearing after the Centre sought an urgent hearing .
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said resident doctors are rightly concerned as admissions to PG courses have been stalled pending hearing before a three judge bench.
Mehta on Monday requested the top court to hear urgently the matter Justice DY Chandrachud, who led the bench on Monday asked Mehta whether a three-judge bench was suitable, and the solicitor general said yes.
On December 31, the Centre filed an affidavit stating it has decided to stick to the existing criteria of Rs. 8 lakh annual income limit for determination of 10 per cent EWS reservation with respect to the ongoing admissions to the NEET post graduate courses.
