SC to hear appeal on Gyanvapi mosque
New Delhi, May 16 : The Supreme Court will on Tuesday hear an appeal filed by a Muslim party against the Allahabad High Court’s order permitting videography inside the Gyanvapi-Kashi Vishwanath mosque. A two-judge Bench headed by Justice Dr D Y Chandrachud and also comprising Justice P S Narasimha will hear the appeal filed by the Committee of Management Anjuman Intezamia Masjid Varanasi, challenging the Allahabad High Court order. The matter was mentioned by the petitioner’s senior lawyer Huzefa Ahmadi on Friday seeking an early hearing, to which the apex court refused to pass any interim order. It, however, said it will go through the papers and documents and will list it for hearing. In the process, an Advocate Commissioner was allowed to survey the Gyanvapi mosque. Senior lawyer Ahmadi had told the Supreme Court that the Varanasi court was covered under the Places of Worship Act.
