Chandigarh, Jan 30: The Mahila Kisan Union (MKU) on Sunday decided not to support any political party during the Punjab Assembly elections and opposition against anti farmers-labour BJP and Congress would remain continue.
MKU state president Rajwinder Kaur Raju said here that as per the decision of Sanyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), MKU would maintain its non-political identity and has asked all its members to vote for better candidates, instead of supporting any political party.
She called upon the electorate to cast their votes on the basis of role played by the Legislators and contestants during the Kisan andolan and their sensitivity towards the demands of the struggling farmers and labourers.
Moreover, she asked the workers to vote for those candidates having an honest and pro-people image during the last five years, including their work done for the welfare of farmers and labourers. She further clarified that opposition to BJP would continue, due to its non-compliance to farmer’s demands by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, despite written assurance to the SKM. Furthermore, she added that the Congress government of Punjab would not be supported due to putting off the debt waiver demand of the entire peasantry and labourers, including non-payment of compensation for natural calamities vis-a-vis pest attack on cotton crops, besides other important demands of the farmers in the state.
The women farmer leader asked all the political parties and the contesting candidates to shun the habit of buying votes through notes, dole out freebees and drugs in the state, if they want to make Punjab prosperous.
Kaur referred to recent revelations in the New York Times newspaper about the purchase of Pegasus spyware by Modi Government from Israel to spy on the common man of the country and said the BJP government has hidden this truth from the people of the country, including from Parliament and the Supreme Court.
She said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reversed the decades-long neutral Indian foreign policy stance towards Palestine for buying the spy equipment and voted in favor of Israel, opposing the Palestinian side in the UNO. She fully supported the call of ‘Samyukta Kisan Morcha’ for ‘Mission UP’ and exhorted all the farmers’ organisations of Uttar Pradesh to visit from door-to-door, to aware the people of UP to teach a lesson to this anti-farmer and anti-labour party in the Assembly elections.
