New Delhi, March 16: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dinner with his mother found mention in the Question Hour on Wednesday in Lok Sabha as an MP pointed out they were seen using utensils of copper, a metal which is said to have anti-microbial properties. Assam BJP MP from Silchar, Rajdeep Roy asked Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw if government was planning to use copper in rail coaches.
Roy said a recent report by United States Environmental Protection Agency proves that copper has anti-microbial and anti-viral properties, and said copper utensils have long been part of Indian culture. “Recently whole world’s attention was diverted to a photograph where our Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji was having meal with his mother. What caught my attention other than the mother-son bonhomie they were having food in copper utensils,” he said.
Roy asked Vaishnaw if the Railways is planning to use copper for surfaces that people come in contact with. The Minister said the experiment had been done, but it was not successful as copper is expensive, and also corrodes faster. “You are right it is a part of our culture and tradition today science has proved it. As far as its use in Railway is concerned, this experiment has been done in 300 coaches. “However, the problem is that Copper is expensive and it corrodes soon, so perhaps it cannot be used for mass transportation, but can be used for utensils,” he said.
