New Delhi: The Union Health Ministry has today notified that there is no need for new registration for those taking the precautionary dose of COVID-19 vaccine and they can directly take an appointment from Saturday or walk-in to vaccine centres. From January 10, India will start administering the precautionary dose of the vaccine to healthcare workers, frontline workers and those above 60 years of age with comorbidities.
However, appointments for the ‘precautionary dose’ of the Covid-19 vaccine have already begun from today, 8 January as per announcement made by the Centre.
The three priority groups who will receive the precautionary shots are healthcare workers, frontline workers and 60-plus population with co-morbidities. “Those who have taken two doses of Covid-19 vaccine can directly take an appointment or walk into any vaccination centre,” the Union health ministry said.
Amid rising concerns of the third wave of Covid and the emergence of the Omicron variant, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 25th December announced the Centre’s decision to administer a ‘precautionary dose’ of the vaccine.
The Centre has already notified the states and Union territories that the precautionary third dose will be the same as its previous two shots.
The mega vaccination drives for the children category of the age-group 15-18 years already begun on January 3, 2022. All the beneficiaries have been administered indigenously made Covaxin shots after consultation with the health department and researchers.
