More Money Spent On ‘Pooja Path’ Than Clean Ganga Project, Opp MP Seeks Project Status
New Delhi, Feb 9: Congress MP Kumar Ketkar on Wednesday demanded the status of the Clean Ganga project and said the Hindu holy river remains unclean despite a budget of Rs 20,000-30,000 crores.
“The Prime Minister himself is the Chairman of the National Ganga Council. It was promised that by 2019 Ganga will be cleaned up. Now the Central Pollution Board has said that not only is the Ganga not clean but it is unlikely to be clean for many years. And it is certainly not for bathing purpose,” he said during Zero Hour.
More money has been spent on ‘pooja path’ than on Clean Ganga project and the river is primarily used as ‘shav vahini’, the Rajya Sabha MP said during Zero Hour. “From 20,000 crore to 30,000 crore, the budget has gone but nothing has happened, Ganga remains as unclean or more unclean. Now it has become Ram teri Ganga maili.” The MP asked the government to clarify the status of the project and how much money has been spent on it.
